There seems to be a lot of attachment with igloos and Canada. There seems to be an ongoing joke that we Canadians live primarily in igloos and have polar bears walking down the main streets. (they don't btw…)

hahaha, we Canadians would probably have to take over Greenland and a couple of the other Scandinavian countries first before Finland is in Canada – unfortunately, we're relatively the peaceful type.

How are they heated? Anyone know?

Well, I'm not entirely sure but i guess I'll make an educated guess. These igloos do have electricity, so probably a really small space heater. That glass is suppose to be a special thermo glass that will trap all the heat in just like snow does. But, if it's anything like the real igloos, then there is no heater and it would just be body heat and the heat from a lantern that will warm up the structure. I've slept in a snow structure similar to an igloo before, and it get warms when you have multiple bodies in there.

This is a fabulous holiday igloo in a great location now the eskimos don't need their big eskimo costumes anymore. It sure looks warm there.

The structures themselves are beautiful lit up at night. I can just imagine the awe people do feel lying in a warm enclosure enjoying one of the most spectacular sites nature has to offer.

I think cold wilderness can be a daunting experience for some.

The hotel has other attractions such as a glass teepee for cocktail parties under the northern lights.

Depending on each year's build, the Ice Hotel Hunderfossen houses an average of 25-35 guests at a time It opens in late December and remains open until early March, Ice Hotel also offers guided tours during the day for those who do not want to sleep in one of the ice hotel's rooms.

The experience of viewing the northern lights can be done from a comfortable bed in a warm room with a special glass that keeps all the heat in.

Went there- wouldn't rate it. The promo material is waaaay more inspiring than the actual experience. The accommodation was nice but the rest of the place is run like school camp. Totally shits on that end of the world romantic ideal. Save yourself the thousands of euro and rent a log cabin in the snow, take your own smoked salmon and you've just replicated what's on offer up there for a quarter of the price and without waiting in line for the drip filter coffee in the mornings with the other tourists.

Sorry to hear you didn't have a good experience there. This is not the first bad review I've read about the place =(
