Dr. Martens Celebrating 50 Years

Last week, Dr. Martens kicked off (all pun intended) its celebrations for their 50th anniversary. Although the brand did have quite the following with blue-collar workers since its inception, the Dr. Martens brand rode the wave to its popularity with the grunge scene back in the 90s. The iconic footwear never really strayed too far from the original model with the round toe-box, protruding soles and of course, the recognizable golden stitching.

Despite slowing down since their heyday, the brand still maintains a firm hold in the footwear industry with their core product and still finds ways to stay relevant on today’s stage.  Their 50th anniversary campaign is a prime example of this as they’ve involved 10 emerging indie artists to record their variations of cult classics that reflect Dr. Martens’ timeless and rock hard demeanor. Over the span of the next couple of months, the select group of artists including DaM-FunK, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and VERBAL + YOON will be releasing their songs on the Dr. Martens website.

Throughout the years, it’s quite incredible to see the different interpretations that people have taken from the Dr. Martens boots, influencing the way they dressed themselves. From Chicago to Melbourne to Seoul, fashionistas from around the world have their own unique take on how and what to wear with it. Street Peeper does an excellent job of scouring the streets of major cities of people exhibiting their own individuality around the iconic boot.

And because of their 50th anniversary, Dr. Martens has taken this opportunity to launch a commemorative limited edition collection. This collection consists of the 8 shoelace-hole boot as well as the 3 hole shoe which is available in Cherry and Black colours. Visit Freshnessmag for more pictures and a closer look.

With an emphasis on durable products and creative marketing ideas, it’s no surprise that Dr. Martens has experienced the success that it has over the decades. We at Vidafine would like to wish Dr. Martens a very Happy 50th Birthday and we look forward to many more celebrations to come.
