Food Flags

As much as we’re told not to play with our food when we were young, seeing people craft up these wonderful flag designs using food just seems to throw that childhood lesson out the window. Starting tomorrow, the Sydney International Food Festival kicks off where they will hold a profusion of foods from countries around the world. As a celebration of the city’s exuberant ethnic food scene, the festival has assigned Australian advertising agency Whybin TBWA with the task of bringing the event to the attention of the public. In their advertising campaign, the flags of a dozen countries were created using ingredients commonly found in their traditional cuisines. Read more »

London Design Festival 2009

Last week, across the Atlantic (for those residing in North America), the London Design Festival showcased some pretty amazing works. Since it’s inception in 2003, the week-long festival is the UK’s biggest, giving London’s world class talent the ability to exhibit their works to design enthusiasts who visit the festival each year. Each exhibit is housed within a London landmark which really depicts the mood and style of the design–be it the Trafalgar Square, Southbank Centre, the Victoria and Albert museum (V&A) or the Somerset House.

Typographic QLOCKTWO

The QLOCKTWO features the time in typographic time format in 5-minute intervals, plus a minute dot at each of the four corners for to-the-minute precision. Each letter is LED-illuminated through the acrylic glass surface with polished edges, along with the wooden body, the QLOCKTWO is a 4 kg masterpiece handmade in Germany. Behind the elegant minimalist design is some great engineering, including a light sensor that automatically adjusts brightness to ambient lighting as well as time synchronization. Read more »
