We throw things out because we either have no use for them or we don’t want to see them ever again. The last thing we expect them to do is to reappear where we least expect it. But what ever happened to reduce, reuse, recycle? We’ve talked about how others such as Atelier 688 and ICFF have considered this approach and made wonders, so we wanted to share more recently, what the people at Garbarage Upcycling Design; a group in Vienna, have done with their ‘trash’, turning those items into works of art.
Done through personal and corporate donations, they take things that people don’t want and turn it into useful modern works of art. Things like old binders, signs or used film strips can become furniture, vases and even jewelry!
Although these works of art are a little more difficult for the average person, the idea of taking objects that have no meaning after they’ve been used and battered isn’t a thought that occurs to many. As we evolve, so does our creativity and our ability to create pieces out of virtually nothing.
