Sculpting Paper

TheFall_Adam

So is paper becoming less and less important as we move over to the computer screens? While we still seem quite content with it, (e.g. like in our recent post) so too are some artists. For some of these artists, paper might be the new clay. With a couple sheets of paper and a bit of glue, amazingly elaborate paper sculptures are taking form. Sure, you might be thinking “oh, but we already have origami and paper airplanes.” But these two artists made me do a double take of how they were “sculpting” from paper.

60th Anniversary for Snoopy

snoopy 60 anniversary peanuts

The popular Peanuts comics by American cartoonist Charles M. Schulz turns 60 in 2010! The story of Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Lucy and the rest of the Peanuts gang debuted on 2 October, 1950 and what started as a comic strip turned TV show and book, gained worldwide adoration. The most notable of the bunch is of course Snoopy, the pet beagle of Charlie Brown. To celebrate this momentous occasion, displays have been set up around the world to showcase this lovable children’s cartoon character with the help of various designers. Vidafine was at New Town Plaza in Hong Kong this week and wanted to share with you some of the cool designs that were on display.

3D Gingerbread Mug Ornaments

mini-gingerbread-houses

I absolutely fell in love with these mini gingerbread house ‘ornaments’ (I guess you can call them that) when I saw them. Inspired by the sugar cubes that are often found on tea cups, Megan from Not Martha decided to create these homemade decorations to perch on the edge of her Christmas mugs.

OOU! Notebook Envelope

oou-notebook-envelop

Dear Geeks: Remember that MacBook Air commercial where the 1.96 cm notebook could comfortably fit inside a paper envelope? And then you tried squeezing your regular-sized notebook into one and the envelope ripped? Yea, I did that… it was a smart ad, didn’t convince me enough to buy the MacBook Air though!

If you have had a similar experience, you’re in luck! Because someone made a leather version of those envelopes for your regular-sized notebook.

All I Want For Christmas ($30 or More)

garfield-christmas

Dear Santa,

It’s that time of year again and we’re writing to let you know how good we’ve been this past year. Besides helping old people cross the streets and saving crying infants from burning buildings, we’ve completed our homework on time and helped with household chores. Because of our good deeds, we believe that this warrants a slightly *better* gift. So without any further ado, here’s a list of gifts over $30 (USD) that are on our minds. Thanks and we’ll be looking forward to your visit!

Love,

All of us at Vidafine

P.S. Please enjoy the milk and cookies on the kitchen counter.

Wants & Needs For Sale

needs-wants-for-sale

In life, if you ever want or need something, it pretty much goes down like this. You work, get paid, and use that money to buy whatever it is that you want or need. However, New York artists Justin Gignac and Christine Santora have light-heartedly put this common routine on its head.

Hotel Igloo Village

Catching one of nature’s jaw-dropping light shows, the auroras, can be a chilly experience, especially in the northern hemisphere. Away from the distracting city lights and city comforts and into dark, cold wilderness can be a daunting experience for some. So for those of us who would still like to catch a glimpse of the awe-inspiring northern lights, but would prefer to be relatively warm, there is a place out in northern Finland, amongst the reindeer, where you can find a field of igloos. Except the igloos here are not made from snow.

All I Want For Christmas ($30 or less)

Dear Santa,

As you may already be well aware, we haven’t exactly been on our best behaviours the preceding year. Coupled with the economic downturn that we’re in, we don’t exactly foresee ourselves finding that shining red bike under the tree or unwrapping a new 50 inch OLED TV on Christmas Day. However, we do feel that we’re still deserving of a cool neat gift so we’ve compiled a short list of our most wanted items for under $30 (USD). Thank you and we’ll try our best to be really good next year.

Love,

Bobby and friends

P.S. We’ve cleaned the chimney in anticipation of your arrival!
